IAEA DG Amano visit to Namibia – May 2016

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA,His Excellency, Yukiya Amano, is in the country for a three day visit. As a major uranium producing country, the visit is aimed at strengthening ties between IAEA and Namibia on cooperation on areas of nuclear energy, agriculture and human health with the focus on cancer prevention and cancer treatment methodologies.

He met with the Honourable ,Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations.

As a Member State of the IAEA, and Member of IAEA Board of
Governors, Namibia cooperates with the IAEA in various areas of the three pillars of the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty, namely in the peaceful uses of nuclear technology, nuclear disarmament and non-Proliferation of nuclear weapons.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services serves as the focal point for IAEA.
